In this study, the effect of titanium dioxide (TiO₂) nanoparticles on improving the anti-wear properties, friction reduction, and physical properties of epoxidized soybean oil was investigated. The research was conducted in four main stages:
Preparation of nano-lubricant mixtures: TiO₂ nanoparticles were blended with epoxidized soybean oil at weight concentrations of 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.5%.
Dispersion and stability of nanoparticles: An ultrasonic bath was used for uniform dispersion of nanoparticles, and Span-80 surfactant was employed to prevent sedimentation.
Experimental evaluation: Wear tests were performed using a pin-on-disk apparatus, and physical properties, including pour point, flash point, and viscosity, were measured according to international standards.
Analysis of results: The performance of nano-lubricant mixtures was compared with that of the base oil.
The results indicated that the nano-lubricant containing 0.5% by weight of TiO₂ nanoparticles exhibited the best performance. The friction coefficient and wear rate decreased by 7.93% and 57.14%, respectively. Additionally, viscosity increased by 11.95%, and the flash point decreased by 3%, while no significant change was observed in the pour point. These findings highlight the significant potential of TiO₂ nanoparticles in enhancing the performance of biolubricants.
