Abstract:   (6 Views)
In the present study, the structures of perforated segmental baffles, perforated single-pass helical baffles, and perforated double-pass helical baffles equipped with different tube bundles (circular, elliptical, and almond-shaped) were numerically investigated. Parameters such as pressure drop, heat transfer-to-pressure drop ratio, and thermal performance factor were evaluated to examine the performance of the proposed baffle configurations in comparison with the baseline structures (segmental baffle, single-pass helical baffle, and double-pass helical baffle) incorporating different tube bundle geometries. The results indicated that the reduction in pressure drop for the perforated single-pass helical baffle compared with the single-pass helical baffle, for the perforated segmental baffle compared with the segmental baffle, and for the perforated double-pass helical baffle compared with the double-pass helical baffle was 17.7%, 20%, and 14%, respectively. For all tube bundle configurations, the perforated single-pass helical baffle exhibited the best performance among the proposed baffle arrangements. It was followed by the elliptical tube bundle equipped with the same baffle structure, with a performance factor of 1.4, ranking second. Regarding the effect of employing five different nanofluids, the results showed that the highest heat transfer-to-pressure drop ratio at tube-side Reynolds numbers of 2000 and 6000 was 9 and 14, respectively, corresponding to the water–copper oxide nanofluid at a 3% volume fraction.
